Meredith and Dan Miller Vostrejs (RPCV E. Caribbean 95-97, they met in the Peace Corps) bought supplies and Dan outlined the map. The kids painted it all in over several days in May 2014. It was an open invitation for all students, and they had about 50 people participate. The kids, current students and even some Ohlone alum, ran the show!
The map is painted at the entrance to the school, and celebrates the diverse community (culturally and geographically), and supports their goal of raising global citizens. It has been fun to watch the kids show their friends where their family is from or where they went on vacation; in many cases it has been used to show the migration patterns of their own school families. Next step is to label the countries...perhaps a summer project!
